Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans' Nursing Home opened in 2010 as a skilled nursing facility with a capacity of 120 residents. The nursing home is named after Florida resident Medal of Honor recipient Lieutenant Commander Clyde E. Lassen. He was presented the Medal of Honor in 1969. As a Naval helicopter pilot, Lieutenant Commander Lassen saved two pilots shot down in North Vietnam. The rescue was performed under severe conditions, in darkness and under heavy fire. He served in the Navy for 30 years and he died in 1993.
